Description:

Established in 1907, Camp Lawrence for Boys is a vital, diverse community of 150 campers and over 60 staff members from around the world. The camp covers 70 acres of picturesque Bear Island on Lake Winnipesaukee, amid the breathtaking White Mountains. Because of its island location, transportation is provided by the Bear II, the camp's 50-foot passenger launch. Camp Lawrence is accredited by the American Camp Association, licensed by the state of New Hampshire, and operates in accordance with the YMCA of the USA policies.

The fully screened, wood-framed camper cabins, which house from eight to twelve boys and two cabin counselors, are clustered by age group. Centrally located to each cabin are modern toilet and shower facilities. Excellent medical care is provided by two licensed nurses on-site at the Thomas Wood Infirmary. Hearty but healthy family-style meals are served three times daily in the dining hall. Program areas include two beautiful natural beaches, multi-purpose playing fields, tennis courts, a craft shop, archery and riflery ranges, a primitive outpost, high and low element ropes courses, and a recreational lodge.

The boys choose their own schedules from a wide range of athletic, creative, and instructional activities. These activities challenge each camper according to his individual needs, and care is taken to provide instruction adjusted to each boy's age, interest, and skill. Each two week session includes several of the traditional, full-camp programs such as Orange & Grey, special theme dinners, Casino Night, a traditional 4th of July Celebration, Tableaux, or Camp Olympics. Although competitive opportunities do exist in these programs, the emphasis is on fun! Spiritual growth is an integral part of camp life. Simple non-denominational vesper services are held in a campfire setting on Sunday evening. Camp Lawrence offers a well-rounded and creative summer that reaches far beyond the two to eight weeks that the boys are in camp. It's an experience that creates memories that will last a lifetime.
