Description:

Since 1955, JSLA has introduced young people to the unique resources of the Squam Lakes Area, fostering appreciation and action for its natural heritage. The Discovery Program is for children entering grades 3 & 4, this is an introductory program focused on increasing children's interest in the outdoors and teaching them basic canoeing and camping skills. The Explorer Program is for children entering grades 5 & 6, this is an intermediate, heightened program. Emphasis will be on interactive team-building. The Expedition Program is for students entering grades 7, 8 & 9, this will be an advanced challenge with emphasis on nurturing a love for the outdoors, responsible use of natural resources, and a life-long commitment to healthy, physical activity. For young adults entering grades 9 - 12, The Squam Conservation Corps is a one-week internship focused on SLA's conservation programs, including: trail building and maintenance, ecological monitoring, invasive species management and backcountry recreation management.
